Youth Learning About Energy

4-H Endowment Program September Energy Class

In September, the youth of Weld County  learned all about Energy. From the Sun to the sound coming from our mouths and the heat from the earth, Energy is all around us. Did you know that the Energy that hits the earth in one second is enough to have powered all our energy needs for the entire time that humans have been around? Youth have explored different tools in measuring energy. They have looked at the Flicker Checker that tests the efficiency of our lights, the hand crank that creates electrical energy from moving a crank with our hands to power a light bulb, the lux meter that detects how much lux (light) is in the classroom, as well as the Energy monitor that tells how much watts an appliance uses. The youth love to test these instruments and have curious minds that are signs of an early engineer in the making. 75 youth have learned about Energy in September and 132 about Rocketry in August!
